Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Rare and Important "Viola" Coffee Table 1960s

Evan Lobel

Rare and important "Viola" coffee table in patinated bronze with hand-painted enamels and glass top inspired by music by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s. Signed on top by “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”. This table is unusual because of the negative space cut out under glass as part of the design. Truly exceptional.

”The Art of Philip LaVerne, Sculpture II, Bronze and Pewter Tables, catalog published in the 1960’s, photo shown on page 20 with description on page 43 which states: “The brilliant world of music was the inspiration for this magnificent design. An abstract violin, along with other musical symbols have been carved in a fret work of open bronze. The pierced top rests under a glass surface which allows the most delightful reflections of music to come through. Open sculptures of bronze glide up to form the legs.”
