Naomi Feinberg "When Gentle Things Were Said" Sculpture in Italian Marble 1970s - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Feinberg 150 When Gentle Things Were Said sculpture125.jpg

Large hand-carved sinuous “When Gentle Things Were Said” sculpture in Italian marble by Naomi Feinberg, American 1970’s.

Naomi Feinberg was a New York based sculptor who worked primarily in stone. She began sculpting in the 1940’s and became affiliated with artist group Studio 725 which was a consortium of woman artists working in Union Square NYC. She studied sculpture with Philip Darling, Jose De Creeft, and Lorrie Goulet at the New School, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts A relative late comer to the art world, Naomi Feinberg emerged as highly accomplished, multi-faceted artist who juggled architectural coherence with a preoccupation with the human form, to create works that are both experimental and primitive.

Provenance:  The personal collection of the artist and then her family after her death.  This piece is part of the Lobel Modern's exhibition:  Naomi Feinberg:  A Woman Sculpting in a Man's World currently on exhibition in our Exhibit Gallery across the hall from our showroom.

Roberto Estevez Ostrich Egg and Sea Shell Bird Sculpture 1968 (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

main.jpg

Original bird sculpture in etched pewter and brass with incorporated ostrich egg and sea shell on a bronze base by Roberto Estevez, American 1968 (signed “Estevez 68” on bottom). This is a unique sculpture and showcases the artisanship and intricacy of Roberto Estevez’s designs.

Roberto Estevez was a renown jewelry designer and sculptor. He designed jewelry for Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels as well as Tiffany. He had extraordinary talent in creating whimsical sculptures of animals and insects incorporating sea shells, ostrich eggs and other organic materials. He also created more serious works in small editions, mostly in bronze and brass, including those of monkeys and the human form, both male and female. Roberto Estevez was Karl Springer’s life partner until his death in the 1980’s. Estevez’s sophisticated and elegant designs fit in perfectly with Karl’s own aesthetic and Karl sold many of Roberto’s pieces through his showrooms.
