Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Rare and Important "K'ang Hsi" Extension Table 1960s (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

main.jpg

Rare and Important “K'ang Hsi” extension table with top in engraved and patinated bronze and pewter with hand-painted enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s (signed on both leaves and center section, “Philip & Kelvin LaVerne”). The base is hand-brazed in patinated and engraved bronze with green patina. There are 4 symbols on the leaves which represent prosperity and longevity.  According to Kelvin LaVerne, very few of these were made and it could take a year to complete a single table. It is a tour de force of design and showcases the fine artisanship of Philip & Kelvin LaVerne.

The mechanism that lifts the leaves was invented by the LaVernes.” This table is also discussed in the introduction to the book.

Paul Evans Sculpted Bronze Wall Unit 1974 (Signed and Dated) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Wall unit with 2 pilasters in sculpted bronze resin and smoked glass shelves by Paul Evans, American 1974 (signed "PE 74"). This piece was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze. A rare and iconic Paul Evans design.
