Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Les Chinois" Cocktail Table 1970s (Signed) - SOLD

Rare "Les Chinois” Cocktail Table with 4 legs engraved with Chinese scenes in patinated bronze and pewter with hand-painted colorful enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed in 3 places). This coffee table is very rare. Kelvin LaVerne states that only a few were made. The Chinese iconography and coloration on the legs are superb. The legs were bent into shape by hand.

The caption from the LaVerne catalog reads, “The LES CHINOIS coffee table was created in the 1970s. The LaVenes were constantly experimenting with different ways to showcase their artistic skills. Here, the engraved and hand-colored scenes are on the legs, which had to be bent into shape by hand. The tabletop shows the LaVerne patina which was obtained by burying it underground.”

4 Poster queen size bed model No. 185 in lacquered mahogany with silver leaf flowers at tops of posts by Tommi Parzinger for Parzinger Originals, American 1950's. These Parzinger beds are rare and this one is a beauty. The lacquer color is a rich dark brown.

"Dirigible, Hangar, Launch" original painting in oil on canvas over wood by William Steiger, American, 2001 (signed, titled and dated on verso). William Steiger studied art at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and was a 1989 graduate of the MFA program at Yale University. He is the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships, and awards. His work is included in countless private, public, and corporate collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art. Beginning in 2004, he added printmaker to his resume, working with Pace Prints and the Dieu Donné Papermill. Over 35 solo shows have been mounted internationally, and in 2011 Hudson Hills Press published a monograph of his work, featuring more than 200 images and essays by 13 contributing writers.
