Lobel Modern, opened in 1998 by Evan Lobel, showcases furniture, lighting, hand-blown glass and art by important designers from the 1940's thru the 1980's. Located in the Four Points section of lower Manhattan.

Unique wall-hanging Chan painting, with center panel inset in an assymmetrical frame with uninterrupted figural motif, in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-applied enamels and gold leaf by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed Philip Kelvin LaVerne). There is a metal cleat on the back for hanging. This piece is both large and stunning.

Pair of Art Deco side chairs in mahogany newly upholstered green sateen with brass sabots by Jules Leleu, France 1940's (numbered on upper legs “15467” and “15468”). These beautifully proportioned chairs are little jewels.

Rare and exceptional "Round Leg Etagere" in solid lucite and brushed and polished steel with 5 customized glass shelves by Karl Springer, American 1980's. The craftsmanship of this piece is superb with polished steel supports under the glass. While this design was more often done with coffee tables and benches, very few etageres were ever made. There is a glass shelf on the top.

Rare wall sculpture, "Moses on the Mount" holding the Ten Commandments, in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “P+K LaVerne” in bottom right corner). Back is covered in green felt. The LaVernes were Jewish and had a deep appreciation for religious and historical iconography of all kinds. The hand-painted colors and the beams of light from the heavens give this work great vibrancy.

Impressive pair of obelisk shaped polished extinct fossil sculptures (Orthoceras) with beautiful organic variations which date back 400 million years from Sweden and the Baltic States.
