Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Illuminated Bronze Sculpture Floor Lamps "Grace" and "Harmony" ca. 1970 - SOLD
Evan Lobel
One-of-a-kind pair of monumental illuminated sculpture floor lamps, “Grace and Harmony”, hand-brazed in bronze tones, one with green patina and the other highly textured, with complex cord elements welded around them, by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American ca. 1970 (signed on bases “Philip + Kelvin LaVerne”). Philip & Kelvin LaVerne produced only these 2 illuminated sculpture floor lamps and they believed the lighting in back and above created halos around them giving them a spiritual aura. On the backs are the original fluorescent fixtures for back lighting which was commonly used in the 1970’s. On top are 2 bulbs on each (one in the white orb and the other recessed in the open top). The Lavernes experimented with the concept of “functional sculptures.”
