"The Passion", a unique Impressionist painting on patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with blue enamels, intricate design and stepped bronze framing by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970 (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” in metal with original gallery label on back). The LaVernes were very adept at painting and sculpting the human body. This totally modern work has its roots in the historical painting of The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel from 1863.
