Rare and important “Bathers” coffee table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s. Signed on top “Kelvin + Philip LaVerne” and original paper label on bottom. This is considered one of the LaVerne’s most striking and important designs. It was inspired by Kelvin’s time in Fire Island.

The caption reads, “The 1960s BATHERS coffee table is described in the Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, Sculpture III catalog, published in the 1970s, as a “continuous flow of hand sculpted bronze forms set into a pewter background. Buried in earth to attain patinas of natural beauty.”
