Vladimir Kagan 2-Tier Side Table with Inset Ceramic Tile Top 1950 (Signed) - SOLD

Rare and early open-sided table in oak with artisan ceramic tiles inset in top by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss, American, c.1950 (signed on bottom “Kagan-Dreyfuss New York. A Vladimir Kagan Design”.) Kagan incorporated hand-made ceramic tiles by Alexandra Kasuba in some of his early designs. They are works of art and their collaboration was a great success.

The Complete Kagan: A Lifetime of Avant-Garde Design, Kagan by Vladimir Kagan with forward by Tom Ford, pg. 56 illustrates other Kagan pieces of the same period with Alexandra Kasuba hand-made ceramic tiles.

"Kuan Su" side table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with floral motif and vibrant blue enamels by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed twice - on front “Philip Kelvin Laverne”. On top “PK LaVerne”.) The table base is architectural and masterful. The condition and the coloration of this table are exceptional.

Stunning large hand-thrown ceramic table lamp with abstract animal motif in delicate colors by Guido Gambone, Italy 1950's (signed “Gambone” on bottom with donkey). This is one of the largest and most beautiful Guido Gambone ceramic lamps we have seen. It’s really incredible. This lamp has been rewired with silk cord and metal has been replated with a bronze finish.

Retains original Philip LaVerne Collection paper tag on bottom. The top has a torched bronze effect. This table is a superb example with vibrant colors.

The top of this table can be found in the Parzinger Originals Inc paper catalog from the 1960’s with a drawing of this top on the left side of the second row of a page of various furniture models with the model “#161” written underneath. Hand forged bronze table base was a custom order and is not located in a catalog of production pieces.


Condition: Excellent - top has been refinished. Patina to bronze consistent with age.

Anzolo Fuga Large and Exceptional Hand-Blown Glass Vase 1955-56 - SOLD

Magnificent hand-blown glass vase in white glass with translucent colorful sections and symmetrically placed rods in red, green, yellow and blue that connect the sections by Anzolo Fuga for Arte Vetraria Muranese (A.V.E.M.), Murano Italy, 1955-56. The scale and artisanship of this vase is impressive. Anzolo Fuga was the master stained glass maker on Murano and his pieces often incorporate mesmerizing colorful “windows”.

Reference:
Anzolo Fuga, Murano Glass Artist by Rosa Barovier-Mentasti, Acanthus Press 2005, a general description of the Multicolor Rods and Murrine series (1955-60) is on page 41. A similar model vase can be seen in the color photograph on page 46 with the caption, “Vase with Multicolor Rods, 1955.”
Arte Vetraria Muranese - Artistic Production 1932-1972 by Marc Heiremans, Arnoldsche , on page 90 is a color photograph of a a similar model vase accompanied by the original drawing by Anzolo Fuga from the A.V.E.M. archives. The caption reads, “Anzolo Fuga, A canne, c. 1956, model 13523.“ On page 88 is a color photograph of another similar model with the caption, “Anzolo Fuga, A canne, c. 1956.”

Provenance:
Evan Lobel purchased this piece directly from A.V.E.M. in 2001 as part of a large collection of art glass pieces stored there from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 60’s.

Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Gladiator" Engraved Painting 1960 (Signed and Dated) - SOLD

Rare “Gladiator” painting, with victorious Roman gladiator standing over his defeated foe, in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960 (signed and dated “Kelvin LaVerne 1960” on the back). This is one of Kelvin LaVerne’s earliest works. The background is intentionally textured to give this work extra dimension. The lion on the gladiator’s shield is a beautiful touch. This is a small masterpiece.
