Important "Adam and Eve" pierced bronze painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed). The LaVernes created the genre of “pierced bronze” paintings and sculpture. By adding a back panel and lifting the front away to create negative space, they were able to give their works added color, depth and complexity. This work was the first pierced bronze painting they made - they decided it was appropriate to start from the beginning, thus Adam and Eve. This is a seminal work.
