Exceptional and rare “Fragonard Pierced Coffee Table” in pewter and bronze, intricately carved with hand-painted polychrome enamels and gold and copper leaf with an inset glass top, by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”). The delicate fretwork is a marvel. An inset glass top is part of the design. This table is a true work of art.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne paper catalog “Sculpture III” published in the 1960’s, on page 41 there is a photo of this model coffee table titled “Fragonard Pierced” with measurements of the table listed. The description in the back of the catalog states: “Delicately pierced bronze is enhanced with enamels of vibrant hue. A central motif of Oriental inspiration is depicted, complemented by birds and beasts. A gleaming glass surface rests over the floral filigree…”
