Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Exceptional "Imperial Palace Coffee Table" 1960s (Signed)
Evan Lobel
Rare and exceptional "Imperial Palace Coffee Table" in patinated bronze and pewter with curved ends and sculptural base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (with original gallery label on bottom). This works is considered one of their best with an Asian motif. The form and design of the top and base are simply superb.

”Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, Sculpture II”, paper catalog published in the 1970’s, on page 5 there is a photo of this coffee table. In the back of the catalog is a description which reads: “THE IMPERIAL PALACE: The fantastic majesty of the ancient Chinese dynasties comes to life in this most unusually curved piece. The form of the table curves upward, created of bronze, to frame the hand-detailed bronze and pewter motif. The Supreme Emperor and Empress are in their summer palace, overlooking the village of pagodas and peasant homes. The truly Oriental feeling of the bronze base complements the grace of this unique artistry, whose subject is very softly patina colored.”
