Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare "The Garden at Versailles" Coffee Table 1960s (Signed)
Evan Lobel
Very rare coffee table "The Garden at Versailles" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-painted enamels by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip + Kelvin LaVerne”). This coffee table is exquisite. It was made as a collector’s edition so there are very few. The LaVernes experimented with raising the edges of tables to more formally frame the artwork on the table top. The results speak for themselves.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne SCULPTURE II, showroom catalog published in the 1970’s, this model is shown on page 1, description in back reads, “THE GARDEN AT VERSAILLES: All the delicacy of the Chinoiserie motif is hand-inlaid of bronze and pewter. An elegant design of the Louis XIV era at the gardens in Versailles forms the motif around the surface, framed in fluted bronze legs and border. Natural patina color, derived through a special process of submersion in imported soil, highlights the beauty of this table.”
