Philip LaVerne Rare Unique Sweeping Sculpture Coffee Table 1966 (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Rare unique wood sculpture table, superbly hand-crafted organic sweeping and curving form in wood with bronze support element and thick customized glass top by Philip LaVerne, American 1966 (signed twice - "LaVerne” engraved into the wood on top and “LaVerne Studio 66” on a brass placard on side near bottom). In 1966 Philip LaVerne experimented with wood sculptures for a period of one year so there are very few. This piece is constructed of rectangular wood blocks, each cut and molded to form a continuous curvaceous form which is supremely difficult. There is a bronze element as that was the medium he was best known for working with. The craftsmanship is off the charts.
