Stunning "Lo Ta Hexagonal Cube" table, with sides in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-painted colorful enamels in orange and blue and torched bronze effect top by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on one side). This iconic LaVerne table is a work of art. This table is larger than the typical Hexagonal Cube. It was a custom order.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Unique Side Table with Welded Sculpture Base 1960s (Signed)

One-of-a-kind "Kuan Su" side table with top in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with flower motif with hand-applied gold leaf and a welded abstract sculpture base by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on side). The background of the top is engraved with the “Kuan” motif of interlocking circles, which is meant to evoke something from the past. The interior of the abstract base is lacquered red which can be seen through the negative space. This is a beautiful little LaVerne gem.

Harvey Probber Set of 3 Coffee Tables with "Enamel on Copper" Tops 1950s

Set of 3 coffee tables model No 1145 in mahogany with hand fired white and blue "enamel on copper" tops by Harvey Probber, American 1950's. These studio made enamel tops were created by the noted artist Arpad Rosti. Probber often collaborated with artists to incorporate their works into his pieces.

These coffee tables were part of the retrospective at the New York School of Interior Design: “Making Connections: Harvey Probber Furniture 1945-85” . Evan Lobel was Associate Curator.

Bruno Capacci One-of-a-Kind Coffee Table with Surrealist Figures 1950s (Signed)

Spectacular inlaid stone coffee table with ten captivating Surrealist figural motifs on top with black lacquer base by Bruno Capacci, Italy 1950's (Signed “Capacci” on top). Bruno Capacci (1906-1996) is a well known Italian artist found in museums worldwide such as NYC’s Museum of Modern Art. Each of the captivating surrealist motifs is beautifully refined. The amber elements shine like jewels against the white marble. This coffee table is a masterpiece.

Bruno Capacci was born in Venice in 1906 but spent his youth in Florence.  In 1930 he settled in Paris where he became a member of "Les Italiens de Paris" together with Chirico, Severini, Magni, Magnelli and Léonor Fini.
He was friends with surrealist poets Paul Eluard, Paul Colinet, Marcel Lecomte, Louis Scutenaire and Henri Bauchau and with André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jean Cocteau, Louise de Vilmorin, Federico Fellini, Jean Paulhan, actor Louis Jouvet and many others.

Magnificent and rare abstract collage "Dialogue" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with colorful enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip K. LaVerne” on front). The intricately hand-cut abstract elements add a dynamic sense of depth to the work. The LaVernes experimented with collages but they are rare. The back is covered in felt.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Exquisite "Fragonard Pierced" Coffee Table 1960s (Signed) - ON HOLD

Exceptional and rare “Fragonard Pierced” Coffee Table in patinated, engraved and pierced bronze and pewter, intricately cut with colorful enamel cloisonne and gold and copper leaf with an inset glass top, by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip + Kelvin LaVerne” on front). The coloration of this table is superb. The table top was cut entirely by Kelvin Laverne’s hand. The delicate fretwork is a marvel. This series always included Chinese figures with at least one animal. This one features two birds and two horses. An inset glass top is part of the design. It’s a masterpiece of artisanship.

The tops of this series always contain Asian figures and at least one animal colored with enamel cloisonne that added depth.”

Magnificent “Chinois Table” with a pair of engraved Chinese vignettes on top in patinated bronze and pewter with hand-applied enamels in blue, green, and orange with gold and copper leaf by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on top). The background of the top is engraved with the “Kuan” motif of interlocking circles, which is meant to be evocative of the past. The pedestal base is lacquered bronze. This table was originally designed as a writing desk but it can also be used as a center table or narrow dining table.

Pair of rare "Galatea" table lamps with female figures in cast bronze on patinated bronze bases by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “PK LaVerne” on front of one base). The female figures are based on the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who creates an ivory alabaster statue representing his ideal woman and then falls in love with her, which he names Galatea; the goddess Venus answers his prayers and brings her to life. The pair have been newly rewired by Lobel Modern with new bronze sockets and silk cords. Lighting fittings have been professionally polished and lacquered.

Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Rare and Important Torso Table Lamps 1970s (signed) - SOLD

Rare and important “Male and Female Torso” table lamps in Hydro Stone plaster on patinated bronze bases by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970’s (signed "PK LaVerne" on both bases).  These table lamps have been finished with a patina that makes them look like excavated sculptures and are very impressive.  As many of the LaVerne's pieces reference historical civilizations, these reference ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.  New custom shades provided by Lobel Modern. These have been newly rewired with new bronze sockets and silk cord. There is a switch on the back of each lamp which turns both sockets on and off at the same time.

Rare pierced bronze painting "Introspection" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant hand painted enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (Signed “Kelvin P. LaVerne” on bottom right). Pierced bronze paintings are a genre which was created by the LaVernes and are among their most complex and beautiful works. Behind the front of the painting, which has sections that have been delicately cut away by hand, is a back panel which adds color and depth to the work.
