Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Unexpected Consequences" Mirror 1970s (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Rare and important mirror “Unexpected Consequences” in patinated bronze, frame with channeled continuous curled tubular element by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, 1970s (signed on frame “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”). Originally Kelvin had designed this mirror differently, but the tubular element had bends and flat sections so Kelvin decides to let the metal dictate the shape. In the end, he noted that it came out better than he designed it. That’s why he called it “Unexpected Consequences.”

Paul Evans Rare Mirror in Bronze Resin with Enameled Steel 1969 (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Evans 300 sclptd brnze+steel mirror276 main.jpg

Rare and important wall mounted mirror in bronze resin with enameled steel elements by Paul Evans Studio for Directional Furniture, American 1969 (signed and dated “PE 69” on the side). We have the matching wall mounted cabinet available for purchase. This series is rare and this mirror is extremely rare. This piece was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze. This is a work of art by one of the most important 20th century designers. (Photo shows mirror with matching wall cabinet, also available.)
