Lobel Modern, opened in 1998 by Evan Lobel, showcases furniture, lighting, hand-blown glass and art by important designers from the 1940's thru the 1980's. Located in the Four Points section of lower Manhattan.

"Dirigible, Hangar, Launch" original painting in oil on canvas over wood by William Steiger, American, 2001 (signed, titled and dated on verso). William Steiger studied art at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and was a 1989 graduate of the MFA program at Yale University. He is the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships, and awards. His work is included in countless private, public, and corporate collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art. Beginning in 2004, he added printmaker to his resume, working with Pace Prints and the Dieu Donné Papermill. Over 35 solo shows have been mounted internationally, and in 2011 Hudson Hills Press published a monograph of his work, featuring more than 200 images and essays by 13 contributing writers.

Rare and unique large coffee table with the "Marriage Whirl" motif in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand painted enamels on a hand-brazed bronze base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on top). It’s a very unusual form and was done as a special order. The shape and scale are extraordinary.

Rare and elegant "Kuan Su" coffee table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-applied colorful enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip. Kelvin LaVerne” on top). The LaVernes loved floral still lifes and the Kuan motif of interlocking circles is supposed to evoke the feeling of something from the past.

The “Eternal Forest” series is one of the artists’ most enchanting. The coffee tables are rare and game tables like these are even rarer. This is a stunning work of art.

Rare and Important “K'ang Hsi” extension table with top in engraved and patinated bronze and pewter with hand-painted enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s (signed on both leaves and center section, “Philip & Kelvin LaVerne”). The base is hand-brazed in patinated and engraved bronze with green patina. There are 4 symbols on the leaves which represent prosperity and longevity.  According to Kelvin LaVerne, very few of these were made and it could take a year to complete a single table. It is a tour de force of design and showcases the fine artisanship of Philip & Kelvin LaVerne.

The mechanism that lifts the leaves was invented by the LaVernes.” This table is also discussed in the introduction to the book.

Paul Evans Sculpted Bronze Wall Unit 1974 (Signed and Dated) - SOLD

Wall unit with 2 pilasters in sculpted bronze resin and smoked glass shelves by Paul Evans, American 1974 (signed "PE 74"). This piece was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze. A rare and iconic Paul Evans design.
