Large original oil on linen "Sensatescimbellowinghush", by Stanley Boxer (1926-2000), American 1980's (signed and dated on back by artist and original Thomas Segal Gallery label on back). Stanley Boxer was an important mid-century painter who specialized in textures and color fields. This painting has two layers: a bottom layer which has yellow, red and blue color fields; and an upper layer of texture through which the bottom layer is subtly visible. This painting is a wonderful example of his best work. Boxer had a deep love of language, particularly German, and he combined suggestive words to create unique titles which complimented his approach to painting which merged color and form. His works are in many important museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Whitney Museum of American Art, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Hirshorn Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, amongst many others. In 1975, Boxer was a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship.
This painting is currently on view in our Exhibit Gallery across from our main showroom.

Rare unique wood sculpture table, superbly hand-crafted organic sweeping and curving form in wood with bronze support element and thick customized glass top by Philip LaVerne, American 1966 (signed twice - "LaVerne” engraved into the wood on top and “LaVerne Studio 66” on a brass placard on side near bottom). In 1966 Philip LaVerne experimented with wood sculptures for a short time so there are very few. This piece is constructed of rectangular wood blocks, each cut and molded to form a continuous curvaceous form which is supremely difficult. There is a bronze element as that was the medium he was best known for working with. The craftsmanship is off the charts.
