Unique Impressionist painting "Caribbean" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne in green, yellow, blue, and red with hand-brazed braided bronze frame by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip K LaVerne” on front). “Caribbean” is a tribute to Caribbean women who carry heavy baskets on their heads. The LaVernes were inspired by this while on a trip to St. Thomas. It’s a spectacular work of art.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Odyssey" Coffee Table 1960s (Signed)

Important and mesmerizing "Odyssey” Coffee Table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant hand-painted enamels and gold and copper leaf atop a Greek column pedestal base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Kelvin. Philip LaVerne” on top). This table is based on ancient Greek architecture and mythology. In the 1960’s Kelvin went to Greece to sketch ruins. On the left side of the scene is an artist sitting and sketching on the steps of the Erechtheion ruins. Kelvin LaVerne drew himself into the scene for posterity. On the right side is the Parthenon, and Muses stand in the foreground. Kelvin LaVerne wrote a long recollection and description about this piece featured in the book below.

Philip and Kelvin Laverne Unique "Chinois Table" 1960s (Signed)

Magnificent “Chinois Table” with a pair of engraved Chinese vignettes on top in patinated bronze and pewter with hand-applied enamels in blue, green, and orange with gold and copper leaf by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on top). The background of the top is engraved with the “Kuan” motif of interlocking circles, which is meant to be evocative of the past. The pedestal base is lacquered bronze. This could be used as a dining table, a writing desk or center table.

Pair of rare "Galatea" table lamps with female figures in cast bronze on patinated bronze bases by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “PK LaVerne” on front of one base). The female figures are based on the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who creates an ivory alabaster statue representing his ideal woman and then falls in love with her, which he names Galatea; the goddess Venus answers his prayers and brings her to life. The pair have been newly rewired by Lobel Modern with new bronze sockets and silk cords. Lighting fittings have been professionally polished and lacquered.

Rare and important “Male and Female Torso” table lamps in Hydro Stone plaster on patinated bronze bases by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970’s (signed "PK LaVerne" on both bases).  These table lamps have been finished with a patina that makes them look like excavated sculptures and are very impressive.  As many of the LaVerne's pieces reference historical civilizations, these reference ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.  New custom shades provided by Lobel Modern. These have been newly rewired with new bronze sockets and silk cord. There is a switch on the back of each lamp which turns both sockets on and off at the same time.

Rare pierced bronze painting "Introspection" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant hand painted enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (Signed “Kelvin P. LaVerne” on bottom right). Pierced bronze paintings are a genre which was created by the LaVernes and are among their most complex and beautiful works. Behind the front of the painting, which has sections that have been delicately cut away by hand, is a back panel which adds color and depth to the work.

Large and exceptional painting, “Passion”, in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960s (Signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on front). This extraordinary work shows two figures. The unique sculptured frame adds sophistication and a sense of movement to the work. This piece hung in the Seymour Gallery, which which was located on the 3rd floor of the LaVerne gallery. It showcased the best artworks by the LaVernes.

Rare and stunning "Chinois Cabinet" with 4 doors, each with a beautiful Chinese scene in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant hand-painted enamels and a hand-chased bronze plinth base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed four times, “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on each door). The interior is lacquered red with shelves and a felt-lined drawer trimmed in patinated bronze. The top, sides and drawer are engraved with the Kuan motif which is meant to evoke something from the past.

The coloration of this table is exquisite. Has the original gallery labeling on the bottom. It’s a gem. The enamel cloisonne enhances the depth of the colors.

Exceptional and rare “Fragonard Pierced” Coffee Table in patinated, engraved and pierced bronze and pewter, intricately cut with enamel cloisonne and gold and copper leaf with an inset glass top, by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”). These tables were cut by Kelvin's hand. This series always included Chinese figures with at least one animal. The delicate fretwork is a marvel. An inset glass top is part of the design.

The caption reads, “The 1960s FRAGONARD PIERCED coffee table is one of the most extraordinary designs in the Historical Civlization Series as it combines extremely difficult aspects of the LaVernes’ artisanship. The pierced bronze tabletops were cut by Kelvin’s hand. This process was time-consuming, very delicate and often with hand-applied gold and copper leaf over the competed floral filigree. The tops of this series always contain Asian figures and at least one animal colored with enamel cloisonne that added depth.”
