Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Engraved Painting "Last Tango In Paris" with Picture Light 1960s (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Unique Impressionist painting "Last Tango in Paris" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne, sculptured bronze frame and original picture light incorporated into the design by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip Kelvin Laverne” on painting - see photo). The hand-brazed sculptured frame that is part of this work adds to its dynamism. The incorporated light in patinated bronze which hangs parallel to the top is fantastic. The LaVernes experimented with asymmetry in several works.

This console was purchased by the original owner together with an Evans’ bronze resin and burl mirror from Paul Evans’ studio. They remained in her home (see photo) until purchased by Lobel Modern., The mirror is available in a separate listing.

Superbly crafted bar cabinet in walnut with satinwood inlays, engraved bronze pulls, Chinese red lacquered interior and original automatic interior light by Tommi Parzinger for Parzinger Originals, American 1950's (signed “Parzinger Originals” in drawer). The interior has mirrored panels and includes two glass shelves and the original light at back of the bottom shelf. Below are two drawers and a bottom cabinet with four compartments. The design of this cabinet is incredibly sophisticated . It is a jewel box inside and out.

Superb "T’ang Boucher” Coffee Table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with green patina and ribbon legs by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on table top with original paper gallery label on bottom). The rich hues and jewel tones of this table are magnificent. The green patina was added by the LaVernes to give the table a sense of antiquity.

Anzolo Fuga Large and Stunning Hand-Blown Glass "Spots" Vase 1956

Exceptional large and rare hand-blown "Spots" vase model 13522 in white glass with translucent colorful sections in front and back in green, blue, yellow, and red and bicolor spots on the sides in brown and deep red by Anzolo Fuga for Arte Vetraria Muranese (A.V.E.M.), Murano Italy, 1956. The artisanship and complexity of this large work are incredible. Anzolo Fuga was the master stained glass maker on the island of Murano in the mid 20th century. His glass designs sometimes incorporate colorful glass windows within them which showcase their innate beauty.

Arte Vetraria Muranese - Artistic Production 1932-1972 by Marc Heiremans , on page 91 is a color photograph of this model vase accompanied by the original drawing by Anzolo Fuga from the archives. The caption reads, “Anzolo Fuga, A canne macchiato, c.1956, model 13522.“

Anzolo Fuga Rare and Large Hand-Blown Glass "Bandiere" Vase with Vibrant Colors 1955-58

Large and rare "Bandiere" vase, hand-blown with orange, yellow, blue, white, green and clear colors all around with hole in the center by Anzolo Fuga for Arte Vetraria Muranese (A.V.E.M.), Murano Italy, 1955-58. Bandiere in Italian means flag. This refers to the way the glass rods laid out flat in a tray before this piece was blown. The scale and vibrancy of this vase give it an impactful visual presence. The execution is superb.

Roberto Estevez was an extremely talented jewelry designer and sculptor. He designed jewelry for Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels as well as Tiffany. Roberto Estevez was Karl Springer’s life partner until his death in the 1980s. Estevez’s sophisticated and elegant designs in beautiful and often exotic materials fit in perfectly with Karl’s own aesthetic and many of Roberto’s sculptures were sold through Karl Springer’s showrooms.
